Making your makeup last

The warmer months are ahead of us and although we welcome the season change, with that warmth comes humidity! In the South, it can be tough trying to keep your makeup looking fresh and staying intact, but don’t fret because I have some surefire ways to keep your makeup in place all day.

PRIMER

It is important to know your skin type when buying and applying makeup. Whether you are oily, dry or combination, you can better discuss your primer options with a makeup professional. The primer is applied after you moisturize and before the makeup application.

Primer should be thought of as “double-sided tape” because it keeps the moisture in your skin and the makeup on longer.

Product suggestion:

  • MAC Skin Base

LONG-WEARING MAKEUP

I’m a huge fan of product that doesn’t budge. I like to apply my makeup and be set for the whole day and I especially want my clients to wear product that doesn’t fall off or smudge. There are a plethora of long-wearing products from waterproof mascaras, eyeliner pencils and wonderful long-wearing concealers that also offer full coverage.

SETTING POWDER

Once you have applied your concealer and/or foundation, it’s always a good idea to set it with a translucent powder. A quick dusting of powder all over the face or where you tend to be most oily will help hold product longer. There is no need for “baking” the powder on your face and letting it “set.” A simple application of the proper powder will still be effective and save time during your makeup routine.

Product suggestion:

  • RCMA loose colorless powder

SETTING SPRAY

Setting sprays are everywhere these days and I am so grateful for them. Most can be spritzed on the face prior to makeup application to work as a primer and then also on top of the finished makeup. They can do many things, such as absorb excess oil, create a barrier on top of the makeup, tone redness, add extra hydration, and so on.

This product can even be sprayed onto a fluffy brush and then used to blend out cream or liquid foundations. Don’t forget your final mist before walking out the door!
