Recent years have shifted the way we view our spaces and forced us to use our homes in more multi-functional ways. Whether you’re planning a major house overhaul or a minor room makeover, here are some of 2022’s biggest interior design trends to try in your own home:
Convertible Furniture
As we go further into 2022, versatility will grow with more convertible furniture and multi-use of spaces and interior design pieces.
Sustainable
Sustainability’s influence in the interior design world has increased significantly. This year, we will see more organic and recycled materials implemented than ever before. Expect to see furnishings, flooring and architectural elements that use environmentally friendly materials like reclaimed wood, bamboo, jute, cork, metal, glass, and recycled plastic.
Minimalist
While minimalism has become more common in recent years, extreme minimalism is definitely on-trend for 2022. Many people don’t want their house to feel “cluttered,” and they love the “open/airy” feel. Minimalism captures the art of living with the minimal amount necessary. In addition to creating space, decluttering is known to help reduce stress. Given our world’s current state, we could all use less pressure.
Wallpaper
Wallpaper can seem very intimidating. Ten years ago, I had no idea that I would grow to love wallpaper. But with so many different designs and colors, it is the perfect way to spice up any room. Wallpaper has come a long way in both design and application. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is very popular. It can be a bit pricey, but it’s well worth it for the ease of installation and removal.
Non-white kitchens
The timeless look of white kitchens has had staying power over the last decade and will remain popular for years to come. However, this year, a new era of tones is on the rise. Natural wood islands, cabinets and shelving are becoming a popular trend.
Two-toned cabinets have been trending for some time, and this will continue well into this year. I recommend using the darker cabinet color on the base cabinets and the lighter color on top.
Go green
Green is an easy color to incorporate into any room when adding natural elements, like plants. This year, you will see various shades of green in several different aspects of a space.
Emerald green gives rooms a rich, deep feel, while sage greens give your space a relaxing vibe.
Earthy colors
While I always will have a soft spot in my heart for blue and white décor, I am seeing such a shift to earthy colors in home décor and paint palettes this year.
Greige
Some people may never want to see beige paint again because it isn’t contemporary enough. And some people might never want to look at a gray paint color again because it is too cold. That’s why we have greige; It acts as a neutral palette, complementing whatever color scheme it is paired with.
Dare I say it, beige is on its way back — not entirely like it was 15 years ago, but you will see this shade make a reappearance.
