Small steps can mean big savings when it comes to managing your home’s energy usage. You have more control over your energy bill than you may think.
Implementing energy efficiency measures doesn’t mean you need to do an expensive home renovation. Milder spring temperatures mean your heating and cooling system won’t have to work so hard to keep your home comfortable.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PLEASANT WEATHER AND MAKE SURE YOUR HOME IS PREPARED FOR THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER WITH THESE TIPS:
It’s always advisable to have a licensed professional assess your heating and cooling system at least once a year to ensure it’s working safely and efficiently. Don’t forget to mark your calendar and change out your air filter once a month, too. The more efficiently your system runs, the more you’ll save on your bill.
If you’re looking to upgrade any home appliances, make sure they are ENERGY STAR certified for year-round savings. Rebates often are available, including those for a smart thermostat, energy-saving pool pump and a heat pump water heater. Switching to more energy-efficient appliances, like a smart thermostat, will help you manage your energy usage straight from your phone. Remember, set the temperature to 78 degrees during the summer for maximum savings.
Spring cleaning? Do a quick home inspection to ensure there are no gaps or air leaks around doors or windows. If there are, take a few minutes to install weather stripping. This quick and budget-friendly solution will keep the hot air outside during the summer while you stay nice and cool inside. You can also upgrade your incandescent or fluorescent light bulbs to LEDs for a brighter, more energy efficient home. LEDs last longer, use less energy and are better for the environment. Talk about a win/win!
Summers in South Mississippi are hot! Don’t let the heat drive up your energy bill. Stay cool, stay bright and save energy by implementing these tips at your home or business.
