According to owner Carolyn Barnes Philan, this daiquiri and frozen yogurt shop in Pass Christian’s Sazerac Square was meant to be.
She had always wanted to open a business in her hometown and now is living her retirement dream alongside her husband, Chauncey Philan, and niece, Meghan Bailey.
The business opened in March of 2019, and daiquiris were added in May of that year.
Although customers come for the frozen treats, Philan says people enjoy her restaurant’s warm atmosphere.
“We love getting to know everyone who walks in and feel like they enjoy feeling like part of our family,” she says. “Being able to enjoy such a classic treat like a daiquiri, or having the option of making your own dessert, makes our customers’ experience so special.”
MOST POPULAR DISHES: “Our frozen yogurt after dinner is always a treat,” Philan says. The restaurant also is known for its daq combos. Some popular options are the Cat 5 (Tres Cooyon plus hurricane), Jeanell’s Special (strawberry and amaretto), Jesse’s Girls (bellini and margarita), Creole Girl (Tres Cooyon plus piña colada and strawberry), The Pass Gumbo (five flavors) and JJ Kiss (a tribute to Philan’s late parents).
DELICIOUS NEW ADDITIONS: The shop recently moved into a larger space next door. After undergoing a full remodel, The Pass Daq and FroYo Shoppe now can host small events and get-togethers, such as birthday parties.
Plus, the restaurant soon will offer weekend specials like jambalaya, gumbo and creole pasta.
