The Coast is a delicious place — and we don’t just mean the food. With its unique culture and colorful personalities, our region is full of flavor. Here are just a handful of the local peeps who spice up life on the Coast.
DAVID DELK
WHO HE IS: President of ABC Rentals, actor/director/ singer on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, board member of Center Stage Theatre and performer with the Coast Big Band.
WHY HE LOVES THE COAST: “The Mississippi Gulf Coast has a thriving arts scene, and I’m incredibly lucky to be part of that community and performing on stage with other talented people. How lucky can one guy be having a job he loves and performing all over the Coast with audiences applauding my endeavors? I couldn’t be happier.”
COREY CHRISTY
WHO HE IS: Outreach program coordinator, Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum; past president, Biloxi Main Street; vice president, community outreach, Biloxi Bay Chamber; board member, Gallery 782 Co-Art.
WHY HE LOVES THE COAST: “After growing up in Biloxi, I spent several years living in different parts of the country. It always stood out to me how much more inviting and accepting of different types of people Biloxi is than those places. I don’t believe many other places would have allowed an odd bird like myself to feel so welcome and appreciated as I do in this city. I’ve always felt as though I owe the city repayment for being so accepting and providing the influences that have made me the person I am today.”
JAIMEE DORRIS
WHO SHE IS: “Good Morning Mississippi” anchor at WLOX TV, Ms. Congeniality TV host and producer and Mrs. Mississippi American 2020.
WHY SHE LOVES THE COAST: “I love the diversity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With the influence of New Orleans, Mobile, the military bases, the casinos and the many immigrants that have made Mississippi their home, we have a terrific melting pot — a gumbo, if you will — of flavors, history, perspectives and cultures. And I’m a huge “One Coast” fan. Having lived in all three coastal counties, I’ve experienced a lot of that diversity firsthand. I understand how all the cities come together to season that gumbo and create the unique flavor of South Mississippi.”
SABRINA STALLWORTH
WHO SHE IS: Owner of AllBottledUpByBre, LLC; co-founder of Champagne Art & CBD; active board member of The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art; affiliate of the Ocean Springs Art Association; affiliate of-Bay St. Louis Art Association; tourism ambassador for Coastal Mississippi.
She’s collaborated with East Biloxi Project BELIEVE on a creative jewelry-making project for women, as well as creative art projects with children and fun activities with Boy Scout Troup #419 in Biloxi.
WHY SHE LOVES THE COAST: “As a creator, I enjoy life, meeting people, helping my community and promoting the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. What I love about the Coast are the kind friendly people, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the delicious seafood and the celebratory lifestyle. Laissez les bon temps rouler!”
RACHEL DANGERMOND
WHO SHE IS: A writer and investigative journalist by trade, Dangermond bought 100 Men D.B.A. Hall and resurrected the nonprofit in 2018, which now oversees the maintenance and preservation of this African-American landmark in Bay St. Louis.
WHY SHE LOVES THE COAST: “Moving my family to the Coast has been the best thing for our collective sanity. The Coast gave my son (Constantin) a longer leash to find his independence. And for me, I tapped into the chill energy that is Coast life, and it suits me so much better.”
