It’s time to “get your sport on” in support of mental health. On July 15, the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi will hold the 15th annual “Don’t Worry Be Happy”event, which kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Biloxi Civic Center; Sponsor VIP hour starts at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite team shirt or colors for this sports-themed, casual evening.
Emcee Bill Snyder of WLOX will get the party started, and auctioneer Chuck Mutz of Black-Tie Auctions will help add to the excitement. Guests will enjoy live music by New Orleans-based musicians from the band D-Play, as well as a food tasting featuring bites from Blue Dog Bistro, Ground Zero BluesClub, Half Shell Oyster House, Rack House, Martinis, ScarletPearl Casino Resort and The Shrimp Basket (Ocean Springs).Competitors from Half Shell Oyster House (Hard Rock andGulfport), Marina Cantina, Martinis, Rack House, SandbarDaiquiri Bar & Grill, The Reef, The Shrimp Basket and (with a mocktail) Nutrition on the Fly, will compete in a mixology contest. A live auction and games such as Punch Wall and Heads or Tails will add to the fun.
A primary purpose of the night is to recognize honorees for their support of mental health and wellness. CommunityHonorees are as follows:

“These individuals understand the importance of mental health to our well-being,” says Kay Daneault, MHASM executive director. “Several have seen firsthand how mental illness and substance use affects families,”
This year’s Annette O’Keefe Humanitarian Award goes to state Rep. Kevin W. Felsher, who has made mental health one of his priority issues as a legislator. He sponsored House Bill732, which is helping Mississippi implement the 988 SuicidePrevention Hotline, which launches nationally this month. He also has toured state mental health facilities and advocated for funding for the Department of Mental Health and the state’s first mental health diversion center.
Since 1963, MHASM has worked to support and empower those experiencing mental health challenges. The organization provides resources and services for those seeking mental wellness and recovery. “Don’t Worry Be Happy” raises money for a Drop-In Center, homeless outreach and housing and educational opportunities.
