Since the Covid epidemic, I’ve been searching for ways to boost my immune system and relieve the inflammation in my knees and fingers. On social media, I found an intriguing option: ginger and turmeric shots.
I like ginger, but I’m not too crazy about turmeric. I came across turmeric, ginger and citrus shots and found them very palatable and easy to make, as our local wholesale club and grocery stores carry the needed ingredients.
THE BENEFITS:
The ginger, turmeric and citrus shots are believed to provide a several health benefits primarily due to their potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Some of these include:
- Aiding digestion: Ginger can help alleviate nausea, bloating and stomach discomfort, promoting better digestion.
- Boosting the immune system: The antioxidant content in both ingredients may support immune function.
- Reducing nausea: Ginger helps with stomach issues, and turmeric is recognized for its anti-inflammatory effects, making them a good choice for a natural health boost when combined in a shot.
- Reducing inflammation: Both ginger and turmeric contain compounds (gingerols and curcumin, respectively) known for their strong anti-inflammatory properties, potentially helping with conditions like arthritis.
- Pain relief: Ginger can provide relief from muscle aches and pains.
I have found that by drinking a shot a day, my knees and joints doesn’t ache, and my stomach is settled. I also have noticed my allergies and sinus issues are not as bad as they used to be.
RECIPE: GINGER AND TURMERIC CITRUS SHOTS
Ingredients
- 1 bottle fresh-squeezed orange juice (I use the 59-ounce bottle of Member’s Mark fresh-squeezed orange juice from Sam’s club)
- 4 squeezed lemons
- 4 squeezed limes
- 2 tablespoons of ground turmeric and ginger (or fresh ginger the size of your hand or fresh turmeric the size of two fingers)
- 1/4 teaspoon of black or cayenne pepper to activate the turmeric
Instructions:
- In a blender, combine the lemon and lime juice, along with the ginger and turmeric.
- In a large pitcher, add orange juice to all the blended ingredients. If desired, strain the juices (I don’t like the pulp).
- Pour into 2-ounce jars or shot glasses and refrigerate for seven days. You can take one or two jars a day.
When buying ingredients to make my own shots, I choose high-quality ginger and turmeric. If you can’t find them, it’s okay to use the powder form; however, bear in mind that it is highly concentrated, and a little goes a long way. If you purchase a ready-made option, look for reputable brands.
