Cheryl Johnson received the Karen Sock Woman of the Year Award from Lighthouse Business & Professional Women at the SUCCESS Women’s Conference in August.
With 40 years in the banking industry, Cheryl Johnson is a banking veteran and brings relationship management and a diverse lending background to her role as president of the Mississippi Gulf Coast area for Regions Bank.
Her career has encompassed multiple banking sectors such as production, market development, and team leadership. As president, she is responsible for the oversight of all banking functions in the Coast counties of Mississippi, including the markets of Gulfport, Biloxi, Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, D’Iberville, Bay St. Louis and Picayune.
Johnson serves on the Garden Park Hospital Board of Trustees, the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Foundation Executive Board of Directors, United Way of South Mississippi Executive Board of Directors, and the USM Gulf Park Campus Housing Feasibility Study Committee. She also is actively involved in the Gulf Coast Business Council, Gulfport Rotary Club (past president), Gulfport Business Club, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber. In addition, she frequently serves on panels and steering committees associated with economic development projects.
Multiple organizations and publications have recognized Johnson’s leadership abilities through awards, including Gulfport Rotarian of the Year, Outstanding Community Leader (Sun Herald and Journal of South Mississippi Business), Woman of Achievement (Lighthouse Business and Professional Women) and Best of the Best (Regions Bank). Johnson also was named among Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 50 Leading Business Women and was recently awarded the 2017 Friendship Oak Award by the University of Southern Mississippi for her continued support and commitment to the Gulf Park campus.
