As a new year approaches, we make time to possibly improve our diet, start that workout regimen again, spend more time with family or work on whatever resolution you make, an all this most likely becomes our top priority. Well, for those of us that love design, we’re inspired to freshen up our color palette for 2018. If you ask me, that is an incredible new year’s resolution and a great way to start a new year!
I could not be more excited to share the color of the year with you. This is a color I have loved using in my designs and personal home for years. It is a color that may scare you a little bit, but in the words of Robin Sharma, “Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.” The color of the year is black!
So now you may wonder how to use black in your design? If you are feeling bold, I challenge you to paint a room black. You would be absolutely amazed at the elegance it brings, and contrary to popular belief, it can actually make a space feel larger rather than smaller. In our personal home, we have black walls in our master bathroom, powder room and dining room, which showcases a black dining room table. Needless to say, I am a total and complete fan of black as the color of the year. If painting a room or wall is not in your comfort zone (reminder: it is only paint and easily changed), try a new area rug, throw pillows or even black vases. Interior trim painted black also is absolutely stunning.
This color is now starting to trend in the industry in building materials such as windows, cabinetry, flooring and even matte black appliances. It looks best with crisp white trim, neutral and pastel colors. Jewel tones also are hot for 2018 with midcentury modern looks hitting the market. You will be sure to find a sexy navy sofa in our Elliott Homes model to showcase a touch of jewel tones.
The always trending bright white and warm neutrals married together will, of course, forever be a fan favorite. I do adore white. So if this is what your design spirit prefers I encourage you to commit to freshening up one element in your home.
Why? A new year and a fresh new quilt or a new throw pillow will make your heart happy. I promise.
