Create a sanctuary

by Billie Comeaux

Creating your own private oasis is not as difficult as you might think. Your sanctuary begins with selecting a palette to help create the calm, serene atmosphere you desire.

Suggested colors to work with:

  • Icy blue. Feel soothed and relax to the color of the sky.
  • Sage or pistachio green, taken from nature.
  • Soft grey works great to tone down harsh whites. Use many shades of soft grey or off whites to help create a restful escape.

Your bedroom should appeal to your senses. Add scented candles, mood lighting, fine fabrics and luxurious bed linens.

Lamps on a bedside table should be tall enough to read without showing the light bulb when you’re lying in bed.

If you love reading, place a floor-to-ceiling shelf near your seating area and make sure it’s well lit.

Your heirlooms, pictures, and treasures will help make your sanctuary more personal.
