Elevate your event look

From updos to smoky eyes, glam up and make a statement

As a Gulf Coast native, I’ve seen my hometown through many lenses. Growth has spread from city to city, and there’s always something going on.

From weddings to galas to fundraisers, our social calendars on the Coast are always full, and we want to show up looking our best. I’m happy to help and to share some ways to elevate your event look.

UPDOS

Whatever event you’re attending, a classy updo is always appropriate. While updos have remained popular, the most requested types have changed with the times. For instance, the high messy bun has reappeared from the ‘90s, but lately, this style has been enhanced. Adding intricate fishtail braids, dainty bows or even pearl embellishments can make the look more detailed and eye-catching. This style will always be a winner for weddings and evening parties to bring elegance and sultry vibes.

BLUSH

Challenge yourself with a new blush from brands like Juvia’s Place or Rare Beauty. Whether you’re wanting a soft pink, glowy orange or bold plum, blush can be for everyone and for every event. While blush can seem intimidating, the great thing about this product is that it’s buildable. You can wear as little or as much as you desire. Trying blush at home lets you see where your comfort level lies before you take your look public. Your rosy glow can be a personal triumph or a delight for the world to see.

THE FEATHERED BROW

The constant evolution of makeup trends means we often find ourselves at the crossroads of staying behind or riding the tide of change. In the past, eyebrows were sculpted and carved to perfection, but recently, that approach has been softened by the feathered brow trend. This look showcases the natural brow, but tamed. To achieve it, simply brush either a pomade or gel through the eyebrows and do minimal filling.

THE BROWN SMOKY EYE

As far as I’m concerned, a matte neutral will always be in style. The brown smoky eye is the alluring favorite right now and can be simple to achieve. Use a jumbo eye pencil in a matte brown shade on the lid to serve as the foundation for this look. Next, using a brush or the pad of your finger, you can soften the harsh edges of your initial application. On top of your diffused cream shadow, use a fluffy brush with a brown eye shadow. Use this all over the lid and soften the edges near the eye crease. Finish with either a false lash or mascara.

A personal mantra for myself lately has been, “Your anxiety is lying to you.” Go ahead and buy the eyeshadow. Put on the dress. Wherever you’re going, show up as your best, most confident self.
