Five food-focused ways to lighten up for spring

Forget the idea that you have to diet for spring clothes and summer swimsuits. Instead, focus on how you can feel lighter today by implementing a few strategies that are easy and breezy.

1. COOK AT HOME MORE

Eating out can make you feel heavy and sluggish — and weigh your budget down, too. A good rule of thumb is to eat out half as much as you do now, cooking or eating at home more often. You’ll improve your nutrition, consume less salt and save money you can spend on your new spring wardrobe.

2. EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Those crisp, colorful produce picks can really deliver a one-two punch: They help you fill up on feel-good foods and make you feel refreshed and focused. Try to balance your plate by filling half of it with these choices.

3. DRINK MORE WATER

As the temps warm up and you find yourself outdoors more, reach for water more often. Improving your hydration can really go a long way toward helping you feel more energized and focused on healthy habits.

4. GET RID OF FOOD RULES AND DIET GUILT

Nothing will weigh you down like guilt and shame. Food is necessary – not negative. Let go of food rules that aren’t serving you, and don’t feel ashamed for enjoying your taste buds. Make friends with food, and you’ll see what wonderful transformations happen.

5. GO FOR A WALK

Need a quick way to boost your mood, help your digestion and feel a little lighter? Take a walk. Breathe in the sunshine. Get nature’s Vitamin D and bring clarity to your thoughts and emotions. You don’t always need intense sweat sessions to feel much better.
