‘We can’t wait to welcome you!’

La Patrona Tacos, Tequila & Beer offers taste of Mexico in downtown Biloxi

With a fun atmosphere serving beloved classics, La Patrona Tacos, Tequila & Beer is making a name for itself in downtown Biloxi with its flavorful take on traditional Mexican fare.

Opening in July, La Patrona is a full-service restaurant offering a variety of classic dishes and is owned by longtime Coast resident Marisol Vanegas. As the only full-service Mexican restaurant downtown, La Patrona fills a gap in the area’s dining scene while offering a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home.

“It is very exciting, all the changes that are coming to Biloxi’s downtown and nightlife,” Vanegas says.

Far from a newcomer to the local restaurant world, Vanegas’s family has two other popular Mexican eateries: El Lupillo on Pass Road in Gulfport and El Patron in Pass Christian. Each of her eateries celebrates traditional Mexican cooking while catering to Coast diners’ unique preferences.

“At La Patrona, we’re proud to serve you authentic dishes from deep in Mexico,” Vanegas says. “From the moment you step through our door, you’ll be greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a cozy dinner with loved ones, a celebration with friends or simply to treat yourself, our menu offers something for everyone.”

With La Patrona, she wanted to focus on bringing downtown Biloxi a menu packed with beloved Mexican staples, carefully curated for flavor and authenticity.

“We want our menu to consist only of people’s favorite dishes when they go out to eat,” she explains. “No filler – just hits.”

During my recent visit, I had the opportunity to explore La Patrona’s menu. Showcasing an array of authentic Mexican flavors, the highlight was the El Molcajete. Presented in a sizzling volcanic stone bowl, this hearty dish featured a mix of grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, Mexican sausage and fajita vegetables, crowned with fresh cactus. It was my first time trying cactus, which added a unique taste that blended with the meats and smoky flavors.

I also tried the pollo con queso, served on a bed of Spanish rice and topped with grilled chicken and a generous layer of melted cheese dip that covered the entire dish, as well as the fajita trio, a sizzling plate served with grilled chicken, steak and shrimp with sautéed vegetables, rice, beans and a side salad.

For those with big appetites, La Patrona’s oversized burritos offer a filling, flavorful option. Loaded with ingredients, this dish left me with plenty of leftovers to enjoy later.

To round out the meal, I tried one of the most popular items, the tacos flacos, consisting of three soft, street-style tacos served with rice, beans and a fresh pico de gallo. Vanegas said people can’t get enough of them.

“Join us for a culinary adventure that delights the senses, sparks conversation and brings people together around the table,” she adds. “Experience the flavors, the ambiance and the hospitality that make dining with us truly special. We can’t wait to welcome you!”

La Patrona Tacos, Tequila & Beer is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The restaurant has a full bar specializing in tequila, margaritas and more, with daily buy-one-get-one margarita specials from 3-7 p.m.
