Looking at your worn-out walls and feeling uninspired? Then it’s time for a transformation — and there’s no simpler way get out of a design rut than by playing with color. 2024’s colors of the year, as chosen by several major paint brands, run the gamut from blissful blue to a soft black — and all can make your tired spaces feel brand new. Here are the shades having a moment this year:
PANTONE: PEACH FUZZ
According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, this velvety peach tone “echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection. We chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance.”
VALSPAR: RENEW BLUE
Shades of blue have dominated color trends in recent years, and there’s no end in sight. Enter Renew Blue, which Valspar describes as “a nourishing, green-influenced blue that creates a sense of peace wherever you place it.”
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS: UPWARD
Sherwin-Williams describes its color of the year as a “sunny-day shade for spaces brimming with positive energy, creative thinking and total contentment.”
BENJAMIN MOORE: BLUE NOVA
Benjamin Moore says “violet and blue come together” in this sophisticated, sumptuous hue.
GLIDDEN: LIMITLESS
In stark contrast to last year’s pick, a bold, teal shade called Vining Ivy, Glidden’s top color of 2024 is Limitless — a fresh, warm hue that Ashley McCollum, color expert for Glidden, suggests as an alternative to gray.
BEHR: CRACKED PEPPER
After choosing a soft white called Blank Canvas last year, Behr went in the opposite direction in 2024 with Cracked Pepper. This versatile, yet dramatic, black shade “evokes a sense of confidence and individuality that we want all of our customers to feel after completing a project,” says Jodi Allen, Behr’s global chief marketing officer.
