There may still be a chill in the air, but on the runways of New York, Paris and Milan, the 2016 spring fashion shows have come and gone. Let’s take a look at what trends will translate from the runway to your closet.
Here are my top five fashion trends for spring 2016, and we’ll start with my favorite:
White shirt
The white shirt, which, dear fashionistas, if you have been reading my column all year long you would know that I have been a devoted disciple of the white shirt for many years. While designers reinvent this classic year after year, Vera Wang sent her models down the runway in a basic oversize white shirt with shorts. I love this look as well as the cold shoulder look.
Pleats
The pleated skirt is back and unlike the skater skirt, the long pleated skirt is more forgiving for every body type.
Tied up
Yes, tied up is a trend for spring and one you should try. Michael Kors does this best in a white safari tie jacket and pants.
Stripes
A little stripe top worn with a white linen skirt or white jeans will look chic and effortless. You don’t need to wear head-to-toe stripes, but try it — you’ll like it.
Ruffles
Okay, I will admit I had a vision of bridesmaid dresses gone wrong, but after seeing the collection and how well ruffles can translate in prints, this trend is worth a try.
Spring is here at last in the form of the spring collections. Enjoy!
