Timeless and captivating: The top wedding dress trends of 2024

Bridal fads come and go, but some 2024 wedding dress trends have staying power. Janie D Roberson of Bella Grace Bridals and Formals walks us through the styles that have brides swooning this year:

Sweetheart neckline satin ballgown

2024 bridal trends kicked off with a timeless silhouette, a sweetheart neckline satin ballgown. A bow in the back adds an extra flourish — the bigger, the better. Brides seem to like the big ballgown princess feel, which is a true classic.

Form-fitting lace gowns

As the year progressed, the trend edged toward form-fitting lace gowns with sleeves draped slightly off the shoulder. This trend was especially popular with brides who were remarrying or renewing their vows, or those who wanted to imbue even more romance into their day.

Hourglass-shaped gowns with a cowl neck

Hourglass-shaped gowns with a cowl neck, perhaps with just a hint of sparkle and pearls, also have been a big hit this year. This easy, breezy style is perfect for an outdoor or beach wedding!

Dazzling fit and flare

Finally, my favorite trend — a dazzling fit and flare with all the bells and whistles. It starts with diamonds and ends with pearls all the way to the train. This is for the bride who wants it all — the more drama, the better!

Janie D Roberson of Bella Grace Bridals and Formals

“Whether you want a fit and flare, a form-fitting romantic gown or the perfect ballgown, it’s all about you and your day. Don’t ever second guess your ‘wow’ dress. Just as you chose your future mate for life, your ‘wow’ dress is just as important, and you will know from the moment you look in the mirror. Do not settle!’ — Janie D Roberson, Bella Grace Bridals and Formals

TOP BRIDAL GOWN TRENDS NATIONWIDE

Curious what else is big in the world of bridal gowns? Check out these top trends from Martha Stewart Weddings and whowhatwear.com:

  • Maximalism: Trendy brides this year want to make a big impression, choosing elaborate designs and details. This trend is reflected in the rising popularity of corset bodices, opulent lace and dramatic skirts with intricate trains.
  • Coquette Aesthetic: This trend focuses on flirty, feminine details; think chattily lace gloves, bows, florals and soft, romantic colors. This aesthetic is favored by brides who want to give a nod to nostalgia and ramp up the romance.
  • Subtle Colors: White may reign when it comes to wedding gown colors, but other shades are continuing to gain traction. Expect to see even more brides wearing hues that make them feel the most beautiful on their big day, including soft pastels, blush and even light blues.
  • Two-Piece Sets: Versatility is one of the biggest benefits of a two-piece set, which lets brides mix and match tops and skirts or transition from ceremony to reception looks effortlessly.
