Going from summer to fall is one of my favorite fashion transitions! For starters, you finally get some relief from the high temperatures. Living on the Coast, heat is one of the most challenging obstacles when it comes to choosing what to wear, especially during the summer. But now that things are cooling off, don’t hesitate to layer and use items you already have in your closet.
Here are some of the biggest trends on my radar as we head into fall:
KNITS FOR THE WIN
One summer trend that you can easily carry into the fall is the knit craze. This year, knit dresses, tops, skirts and even matching sets have been the talk of the season. These items are so simple to incorporate into your fall ensembles because knits evoke a coziness that already aligns with fall vibes. For instance, what could feel more perfectly transitional than this fringed knit midi skirt from & Other Stories?
Add an unlined open-knit piece to any outfit for texture and warmth, or wear a slip under the knit dresses that you wore to the beach last season. If it’s a knit top, you can pair it with a simple undershirt and jeans to complete the outfit.
NOT YOUR MOTHER’S CARDIGAN
Cardigans are an essential item in every closet. Sometimes they are just the icing on the cake of a fabulous fall outfit. I especially love the creativity designers are putting in to make them more flattering and stylish than your average cardigan. For example, the bow detail on Mango’s knit cardigan makes it a unique, stylish addition to your summer-to-fall collection. Another favorite of mine is Anthropologie’s parachute cardigan. It’s stylish and different, and you can pair it with jeans for a casual look or dress it up — a chic alternative to a bomber jacket.
LOVING LINEN
Especially between seasons, linen is your friend forever and always! I’ve been loving linen that has a jean-like appearance. We all know jeans can feel heavy and hot, but linen will always feel easy and breezy. Linen dresses are an especially huge hit — including this Zara midi dress. It can be layered easily with any type of jacket and pairs well with boots or sneakers. There are so many ways to style this and make it work!
VERSATILE VESTS
You probably have noticed that vests are everywhere right now, and that’s great news because you can wear them year-round. For example, the soft piqué vest by Zara can be layered with any type of shirt or blouse on cooler days. If I’m not wearing a vest by itself, I tend to pair it with a lightweight, long-sleeved top. You can even add a lacy long-sleeved top underneath and complete the outfit with jeans and your favorite flat. It’s the perfect fall ensemble!
