Unwrap healthy leg veins this holiday season

Six tips to keep your circulation strong as you celebrate

The holidays are here, and it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, often neglecting our health. All the celebrations, travel and festive indulgences take a toll on our legs, especially for those prone to vein issues. Whether you’re sitting through long flights or indulging in seasonal treats, healthy circulation is key.

To keep your legs feeling their best, let’s “unwrap” six tips to help you protect your leg veins and keep them healthy throughout the season:

1, Stay active

At least 30 minutes of moderate exercise three to five times a week can improve circulation and prevent blood from pooling in your veins.

2. Elevate your legs

While sleeping, elevate your legs above heart level. If working a sedentary job, take opportunities to elevate your legs slightly.

3. Avoid prolonged sitting or standing

Changing positions frequently and taking short walks will help keep blood flowing smoothly.

4. Maintain a healthy weight and diet

Excess weight can put added pressure on your veins, increasing the risk of venous issues. Healthy nutrition with diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins are always key to maintaining vein health.

5. Wear compression stockings

These socks help force blood flow back up through the legs and into the heart to keep blood from pooling in the lower extremities. They are also helpful in the healing process after a vein treatment.

6. Seek treatment if necessary

For ultimate vein health, consult with a vein specialist to learn about customized options to achieve optimal vein health.
