“Providing this level of care is what is special to us,” says Dr. J. Keith Thompson, a board-certified vascular surgeon and founder and CEO of The Vein Institute.
Thompson has more than 18 years’ experience as a surgeon and always dreamed of one day starting his own practice. That dream came true in May when he opened the Vein Institute of South Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
“We offer a wide range of in-office treatments aimed at addressing the simplest spider veins to the most complex varicose veins and venous leg ulcers,” Thompson says. “To ensure the best treatment plan, we provide in-office, same-day venous duplex ultrasounds by our certified, registered vascular sonographer.” He adds that providing excellent vein care is histrue passion. As a result, his practice, which prides itself on creating a pleasant, patient- Dr. J. Keith Thompson focused experience, has grown rapidly.
“Seeing patients find relief from painful veins they have suffered with for years is exactly why the Vein Institute exists,” Thompson says. “We are excited to offer patients the convenience of having their veins treated in a comfortable, relaxed office setting.
“Our patients are most excited that all of our procedures are non-surgical and no downtime is required, so they can walk right out and back to what they were doing.”
Thompson and his dedicated team of seven work tirelessly each day seeing new patients, performing vein treatments in two vein procedure suites and performing venous ultrasounds in an in-office lab. The team also coordinates insurance, benefits and coverages to minimize patients’ out-of-pocket expenses.
“We are on the go from first thing in the morning until we turn the lights out in the evening,” the doctor says. “There’s never a dull moment when you’re hanging out with us.”
Thompson recalls one extremely grateful patient, who heard from three other doctors that no vein treatments existed for her condition.
“But we were able to fully assess her issue and provide resolution,” he says. “She had been struggling with this issue for decades, and after her final treatment, she was so ecstatic that she gave me a huge bear hug.” Thompson can cite many other success stories.
“The biggest reward of our vein practice is seeing patients complete their vein treatments and be able to walk out with pain-free legs,” he says. “Most of our patients have been living with achy, swollen leg veins for so long and had no idea where to go to find relief.”
From spider veins to venous ulcerations, Thompson and his expert team are fully equipped with the skills and cutting-edge technology to serve each patient.
“And we love that our Gulf Coast patients are just a hop, skip and jump away,” he says.
