As we wrap up Women Build 2018, we share our appreciation for the more than 350 volunteers who, through their efforts and actions, helped make the construction of two homes — one in Ocean Springs and one in Gulfport — possible. It was truly a collective effort led by a strong Leadership Team of ladies from Harrison & Jackson Counties, with Brenda Simkins and Jessica McNeel co-chairing the Jackson County build. Navigator Credit Union, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Scarlet Pearl Casino, Boomtown Casino, Chancellor Incorporated, and other local companies signed on for sponsorships, and several other Gulf Coast corporations sponsored their companies’ participation in the fundraiser. As we tally the total and wait for the remaining fundraising dollars to arrive, we are excited to say we are projecting to exceed $150,000!
While Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is in the final stages of Women Build, there is still work to be done. Our need for volunteers and funding doesn’t end here. Construction will continue on these homes and families will work with our financial coaches to prepare for the fiscal responsibility of homeownership. When a family moves into a quality, affordable, safe home, it is a celebration not just for the family, but also for the hundreds of fundraisers, volunteers, and donors who helped make it possible. It’s truly a win for the entire community. For those of you who were not able to participate this year, don’t worry, there’s always next year! Please call 228-678-9100 to reserve your spot for 2019.
